VCD 10.50 & 10.60 next to unusable on Win 8.1

I am using VCD 10.60.0 on Win 8.1 and it is practically unusable on Win 8.1!
* "Ejecting" an inserted virtual DVD reproducibly hangs and sometimes even crashes Windows Explorer! Only after a reboot the virtual DVD is gone/ejected.
* Playing a virtual DVD previously ripped (at least that works) only produces stuttering and unviewable videos (I tried with several DVDs and tried to play them with Windows Media Center and with VLC) - no joy!

So, for me VCD is mostly unusable on Win 8.1!

I use Windows built-in Defender as my AV SW.

Any advice how to have more success?

I do not encounter any problem with Virual CD 10.6 on Windows 8.1. Maybe the diagnostics output (right-click on the Quick Start Icon -> Virtual CD Programs -> Show diagnostics) will give us an idea what's going wrong.

Thanks,
