Some (game) CDs do not work with Virtual CD v4 or higher
If you have problems creating or using a virtual CD (e.g.
you cannot use them in the Windows Explorer, the
application does not work or doesn't find its data on the
CD or it requests the physical CD), here are a few tips:
If you have used or installed the CD application from the physical CD drive, please uninstall and reinstall the CD application from the virtual CD drive again.
Some applications require the CD to be inserted into the first CD drive (drive letter e.g. D:). You may change the drive letter association of your system in the way that the virtual CD becomes the first CD drive. This can be done with the Windows tools to set drive letters (Win 98: device manager, Win NT/2k/XP: drive manager in the system management). Please change the virtual drive letters with the Drive Manager of Virtual CD. As of Virtual CD v8 this is not necessary anymore as it is possible to use the (first) physical CD/DVD drive for the insertion of virtual CDs (see KB article #1935)!
Virtual CD tries to find out the right setting for creating the particular virtual CD/DVD. If this doesn't work, you should try to create the virtual CD with various settings in "Expert Copy Mode". If you turn off the settings in the Ease Copy Mode in Virtual CD v4, the Expert Copy Mode will be used. As of Virtual CD v5 you can turn on the "Expert Copy Mode" in the initial dialogue of the Image Wizard. You can find information about the parameter adjustments in the online help and in the manual (can be downloaded from our website and, if necessary, printed). It is usually a good idea to reduce the reading out speed to 2-4x.
Virtual CD may estimate a long period of time for the image creation. This happens if bad sectors are being read out. Such sectors require much more time to be processed and are mostly only in the beginning of a CD. If a few bad sectors have been found in the beginning of a CD, Virtual CD extrapolates this slow read out time over the whole CD size (because it assumes that the whole CD will take such long time to be read out). In such cases the estimated time is not correct and will drop significantly after the slow sectors have been passed.
Certain read-out methods such as RAW mode must be supported by the physical source drive. Some drives lack in the support of these advanced CD read-out algorithms. You may test the source drives capabilities by right clicking on a physical CD/DVD drive in the left window pane of the Virtual CD management and select "Properties" and click on "Test". If certain features are shown as not supported than you may need to try a different source drive.
CSS encrypted DVD videos and copy protected audio CDs cannot be copied due to legal issues.
