An "object" is an element of the Virtual CD NMS Administration program which you can manipulate by activating certain functions. Virtual CD NMS Administration recognizes the following objects:

| • | Virtual CD drives |
| • | Physical CD drives |
| • | Users (these are passive objects; i.e., no functions can be applied) |
| • | Stations |
| • | Groups |
Most functions are applicable to more than one object. The function for displaying the properties of an object, for example, can be applied to virtual CDs and client stations.
There are other functions you can apply to other objects as well. The Insert function, for example, can be applied globally; to all groups, all stations, all drives or all images.
