Error message - cannot use virtual CD v. 8.0.0.99

When I install the program I get "The following file did not self-register or unregister: vc8api.dll." and then "try by re-installing again". I tried again several times, in vain. The program does not work.

DLL fails to register

Please try to register the DLL manually. Start -> Run -> type "regsvr32 C:\Program Files\Virtual CD v8\vc8api.dll" (adapt the path if required) and click on OK. What exactly do you mean with "The program does not work"? Do you mean Virtual CD or just the API. Please note that Virtual CD should work with the registered vc8api.dll, if the setup is finished successfully besides the error message above.

If the manual registration also fails pleas try to found out with the Dependency Walker which DLL is missing for the API DLL to run.

The entire program does not work.

I have tried what you recommended. It did not work. I have used the latest version of Dependency Walker and get a number of remarks that I do not understand. I have saved the file but do not know how to send it to you. Anyhow, the last part of the report says: about 20 times: "Error: The Side-by-Side configuration information for "c:\program files\virtual cd v8\system\BCGCBPRO850.DLL" contains errors. The application cannot start because the configuration of the application is incorrect. Re-installing may help to solve this problem (14001)."
"Thereafter:
Warning: At least one delay-load dependency module was not found.
Warning: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in a delay-load dependent module."

I hope you can tell me what I need to do.

Side-by-Side

The Side-by-Side error messages point to a problem that is not due to Virtual CD but due to a lack of certain Microsoft DLLs. The problem may be solved by the installation of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86).

This package is not part of Virtual CD as for the installation the MS Installer 3.1 is required which is not part of Windows XP. It has to be installed by an optional Microsoft Update.

After the required updates the Virtual CD setup should be working and Virtual CD should be working, too.

Any report back is highly appreciated!

VCD8 problem

I have done what you suggested and it does work now.

There is, however, still a problem: When I used VCD version 4, when I clicked on the icon (right below on the screen) and I moved the curser to a virtual drive and then tinsert, I got a list of virtual cds. Now I get "No images". If I search for VCDs, I find them all (they are in F:\virtual cds, with a map for every single virtual cd).
I have to move the cursor to "nsert virtual cd" and the to F:\ etc.

I have read many pages of the manual (help file) but nowhere can I find how to make it easy. Under settings I have specified whetre to find the catalogue, which, however, remains empty.

How can this be corrected?

VCD8 problem

Dear Mr. Lelieveld,

what happens if you add the virtual CDs when you use the search function?

Please attach the diagnostics output (CD Managament -> Help -> Diagnostics) within a new answer, too. This will provide us with further information.

Kind regards

I never gave up so I kept on trying and somehow, I got the CDs displayed in "CD Management". I do, regrettably, not remember how but I like to know. I assume that the CDs have to be in a certain directory or that the icons in "CD Management" are shortcuts. Please tell me!

Adding virtual CDs to the CD Management

As I can see in your diagnotics, your virtual CDs are added to the CD Management using the path F:\Virtual CDs (I out your diagnostics internal). I presume that this is the path where all your virtual CDs are stored in.
If you use the Virtual CD Search program for virtual CD it should be no problem adding virtual CDs from any path. Alternatively you can add virtual CDs from the Windows Explorer to the CD Management by drag&drop.
