Installation Windows 98 Saitek USB drivers conflict

This is not a question, but a statement of a recent problem I had installing Virtual CD (version 4.5) on a completely fresh rebuild of Windows 98.

I was encountering the following problem: VCD was installing correctly up until the very end of the installation run (got as far as setting up the virtual drive) and then it was hanging completely, requiring a press of the reset button.

Since I had already had experience of installing it successfully on my system, and it was a completely fresh rebuild of Windows 98, I thought about what I currently had installed that wasn't there a few months ago. The answer was my Saitek P880 USB game controller and accompanying software.

Uninstalling the Saitek software allowed the installation to go ahead as expected. I then reinstalled the controller software, and everything is happy.

I thought it would be useful to add this to the knowledge base, in case anyone else is having a similar problem.

Regards,
Richard Winpenny.

Thank you for your report!

It is highly appreciated! There has been a similar (yet unsolved) issue with another Saitek device (see link below). But I don't think that I will get a response as it is one year ago... I will keep your report in mind (actually I wrote an internal article about it) for further support!
