The Virtual CD support forum

Answers:

Virtual CD on Windows 10 is not mounted

Hello,

When I try to mount iso under 64-bit Windows 10, error occurs. Different ISOs were tried, also Daemon tools has been tried. I've noticed that Microsoft Virtual DVD-ROM device (or something like that) appears after each try to mount ISO. Three tries to mount ISO implies three instances of this device. Of course, I've tried to delete all of them, and then mount some ISO, but the result is the same.

Can anybody help?

ISO compatibility

Virtual CD can support ISO compatible images only. The file extension .iso does not automatically mean that the image is ISO compatible (contains data only). For instance images which contain audio or video data are not ISO compatible. For those kinds of sources you'd need to create a virtual CD from the original source.

What image formats can Virtual CD work with?

Virtual CD on Windows 10 is not mounted: proper CD

Hartmut Maecker,

I've tried to mount different ISO, including ISO with Microsoft Office.

Error message

Which error message do you receive when trying to insert an ISO file? Maybe it is a general problem when you also can't insert an ISO image with Daemon Tools?

Virtual CD on Windows 10 is not mounted: error message

Hartmut Maecker,

Title of message: Couldn't Mount File
Text of message: Sorry, there was a problem mounting the file.

A bit more info: I've tried Daemon, and there were other messages, sometimes 'code 31' appeared.

Virtual CD on Windows 10 is not mounted: Daemon

Hartmut Maecker,

Daemon Tolls has been uninstalled just after unsuccessful trying.

Virtual CD on Windows 10 is not mounted: neither sparse nor lack of letter

Hartmut Maecker,

Thanks for the references. However, my ISOs aren't marked as sparse (I've checked and, being on the safe side, copied onto other place). Also, I tried other letters (up to Z:) using Daemon (its support team kindly granted me the proper temporal license), but the result was the same.
Msybe, such info might clear something: I've looked at service list on my PC and noticed that the several services concerning Hyper-V are switched off, and I couldn't run none of them manually.

Couldn't Mount File in Hyper-V

Do I understand you right: You're trying to insert an ISO image into a Virtual CD virtual drive within a virtual machine? There is no general problem doing so.
Have you tried to create and insert a virtual CD instead? Does this work?

I also found a Microsoft KB article dealing with this problem, but is seems to deal at least in parts with the same problems as pointed out in my further links: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2993573

Couldn't Mount File in Hyper-V

Hartmut Maecker,

Thanks for your trying help me. I've tried to mount ISO on virtual drive by right-clicking on the ISO and choosing 'Mount'; no virtual drive appeared. Also I've tried to mount ISO through Daemon; I have no tools to create virtual CD without mounting ISO.

Thanks for your reference, I've read this article before, and this is not my case.

Several services concerning Hyper-V are switched off

You may want to create a virtual CD at another (physical) PC, e.g. wit hthe Virtual CD demo version, and copy it to the virtual machine.

But: You wrote that "several services concerning Hyper-V are switched off". Did you do any troubleshooting on this. Maybe both problems are connected. It seems to be a general problem anyway.

Several services concerning Hyper-V are switched off

Hartmut Maecker,

I tried to create virtual CD (mount ISO with creating virtual CD for that) on my PC. I don't know how to port virtual CD from one PC to another.

I haven't faced any problem concerning Hyper-V until try to work with virtual CD.

Hyper-V

Hyper-V is no problem for Virtual CD. We have many customers using Hyper-V and other virtualisation software. Maybe Daemon Tools or any other change caused the problem. Can you set up a new virtual with Virtual CD only? Which OS is running on the virtual machine?

Possible problem caused by Daemon

I've tried Daemon, but then uninstalled it. So, I have no installed Daemon now, and try to mount ISO right-clicking on ISO and checking 'Mount'.

However, could Daemon replace some file, for example cdrom.sys (driver for Microsoft Virtual CD)? If so, where can I find the proper cdrom.sys (for 64-bit Windows 10) without reinstalling OS?

Daemon Tools

Hm, I remember a case where Daemon Tools caused problems despite it had been uninstalled, but I don't know the exact problem and solution anymore. That's why I asked if you can set up a clean virual machine with Virtual CD only...

Clean virtual machine

Hartmut Maecker,

Please tell me what is it clean virtusl mschine wit virtual CD? What I have on PC is 64-bit Windows 10 Pro N.

Clean machine

As far as I understood you have a virtual machine on Hyper-V. You can set up a new one with Windows 10 and then install Virtual CD. The aim is to see if ISOs can be mounted into a virtual drive without any other virtualisation software installed.

Clean machine

Hartmut Maecker,
Have I understood right that I should install the second copy of Windows 10 on my PC? Is it possible to create a new (clean) virtual machine within existing Windows?

Virtual or physical machine!?

Sorry, but reading your last answer leaves me unsure if you installed Virtual CD on your physical machine or within a virtual machine based on Hyper-V...
You can also install Virtual CD on another physical Windows 10 PC. Or you reinstall Windows 10 on your PC...

Clean virtual machine

I've bought a new PC about 0.5 years ago (October, 2015),the hard disk was unformatted. I've installed 64-bit Windows 10 PRO N (version 10.0.10240), and I haven't specially installed any virtual machine (besides Daemon, then unistalled it). I'm installing some programs that I need for my work, but they doesn't seem to deal with virtualization. If it may help, I can provide a list of the program installed on my PC.

Hyper-V

You wrote that you've "looked at service list on my PC and noticed that the several services concerning Hyper-V are switched off, and I couldn't run none of them manually". That may have confused me. But anyway, if you don't run a virtual machine on Hyper-V, those services are not required at all. Please be aware not to mix up virtual machine with Virtual CD.

To be honest I don't have any idea anymore. Just to make sure that I did not miss anthing, you can add the complete Virtual CD Diagnostics into a new anser: Right-click on Virtual CD icon in the SysTray of the task bar -> Virtual CD programs -> Show diagnostics. It will be kept internal!

Thanks,

Virtual CD Diagnostics

Hyper-V,

I'd like to provide any information which is needed, but I don't understand what is it 'Virtual CD icon in the SysTray of the task bar -> Virtual CD programs -> Show diagnostics'. I have no special Virtual CD program (besides Daemon, already uninstalled), and my systray doesn't contain anything like that.

PS I'm sorry for doubling one of my previous message with subject 'Clean virtual machine'; please delete it.

No Virtual CD!?!?

Er, you do not have Virtual CD installed!? So you are trying to mount an image like describes here? In this case you are in the completely wrong forum! We do support for our own software Virtual CD only. You may download our demo version and try to mount an ISO file. I'll be glad to provide some help you when you also encounter problems mounting ISOs with Virtual CD.

Best regards

No Virtual CD!

Hartmut Maecker,

I do not have any special tolls for virtualization (excepting Daemon, now uninstalled), and try to mount ISO within Windows 10. Sorry if I miss with forum, it seemed that VirtualCD deals with any way to mount virtual CD, including within Windows 10.
What tools (demo version) are you advising? I feels that I have problem on the OS level, but I'd like to try your program. Maybe it'll help to clear my problem.

Try Virtual CD

You can try the Virtual CD, but maybe you will encounter the same problem as with the MS feature and Daemon Tools (that's what I guess) - and then indeed it is a general problem which you should report to Microsoft.
