The Virtual CD support forum

Explorer Integration with ISO Images

Hello,
I am unable to right click on ISO images in windows explorer and insert them from the popup menu into a virtual drive. Interestingly, I do not have this problem with .bin or .vc6 files. And I have gone through the settings completely, explorer integration is turned on and standard ISO images are selected under supported ISO images. I am using Windows 7 64bit and the 10.0.0.7 of virtual CD. Any help would be appreciated as this is annoying to drag the image into virtual cd manager before inserting it into a virtual drive.

Hello R. Looy,
Please first install the latest version 10.0.1.8
Do you have the problem with each ISO file?
What happens, if you create a new ISO with the VCDEditor? If the problem occurs even with this on?

Explorer Integration with ISO Images

I installed the latest version (10.0.1.8) and I still have this problem. I then uninstalled virtual cd then reinstalled and still the problem persists. Yes, this problem does occur with all ISO files even ones created using the VCDEditor. Do you have 64-bit explorer support? On another similar note, I am unable to drag and drop ISO files directly into the virtual drive on my computer which I was able to do in VC8. This is a serious usability problem because I have to locate ISO images in the VCD Control Center to insert them... a pain if you use an external hard drive like I do? You help in resolving this is greatly appreciated!

Explorer Integration with ISO Images

Hello R. Looy,
Please check following settings:
Virtual CD Control Center => Settings => Supported ISO-Images
Is "Standard ISO images" chosen?

Explorer Integration with ISO Images

Hi A. S. As I mentioned in my first post, standard ISO images is indeed checked under supported ISO images (along with all the others). Also, Activate The Virtual CD Explorer Extension is checked.

I would like to say that I have a good knowledge of computers and fairly extensive programming experience. As I am not a novice, I am not afraid to get my hands dirty running any in-depth tests you may need. Also, what are the registry keys that virtual CD uses? Can I verify they are correct and/or existent?

Explorer Integration with ISO Images

Hello R. Looy,
Is virtual CD listed as “Registered standard application” If you click on “Supported ISO images”?
Have you after you have installed VCD, installed another application that can read that also ISOs?
Are only some ISOs affected?

The problem can only have two causes.
Virtual CD is not the „registered standard application“, or the iso is corrupt.

To answer to questions:
-Yes, "Virtual CD v10" is listed as registered standard application. However, Nero 9 is also listed. The line reads "NeroBurningROM.Files9.iso + Virtual CD v10" I have no idea why Nero is still listed it must have not uninstalled correctly or completely.

-No, I have not installed any other programs that can read ISO images AFTER I installed Virtual CD v10.0.1.8 - I do have ImgBurn installed and I had Nero but removed it sometime later. The only other program that can handle iso images is Windows Disk Image Burner.

-ALL ISO images are affected - this is not a problem for one or two. In addition I know these files are not corrupt.

It does seem like Virtual CD 10 is not correctly associated with the .iso file type. Sometime ago I was trying to solve this problem and set the default application for file types to VC10Play.exe in windows 7 - what is this supposed to be set to? In addition the icon for ISO files are not the virtual CD Icon files, they are just a white file with a grey disk in them as if they were associated with Windows Disk Image Burner.

Explorer Integration with ISO Images

Hello,

Please check the value of the registry key "Standard" in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.iso

If the value is NOT vc10.image make a backup and change to vc10.image

Sometimes it helps to deactivate Virtual CD Explorer extension, reboot the system and activate Virtual CD Explorer extension again.

Best regards

Explorer Integration with ISO Images

I tried disabling explorer integration, restarting, then re-enabling explorer integration and finally restarting again - that did not work. So I went to regedit and looked for the "Standard" key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.iso but was unable to find it. There was the key "(Default)" which was set to NeroBurningROM.Files9.iso - so I changed this to vc10.image (as both .bin and .vc6 files are set to) and then restarted but that didn't work either. I then cleared all the keys and subfolders for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.iso except for the "(Default)" key with the type "REG_SZ" I left the data value at "vc10.image" and restarted my computer (this is exactly how .vc6 and .bin registry entries look) that however did not work either. I then added the nonexistent "Standard" key with a value of "vc10.image" and rebooted but that did not work either. The virtual CD right click explorer extension for ISO images still does not work... Any other ideas? I have not earlier mentioned but I am actually using Windows 7 x64 Professional (I doubt this matters though).

I would like to say thanks for the help so far!

Explorer Integration with ISO Images

Hello

First please excuse me because I have forgotten to translate "Standard" in "Default". I hope I didn't confuse you too much.

If you want please run the following steps:

1. delete the whole registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.iso

2. deactivate Virtual CD Explorer extension

3. reboot the system

4. activate Virtual CD Explorer extension again

Best regards

Explorer Integration with ISO Images

I tried the latest steps for a fix and it still does not work. I am planning on reformatting my computer in the next couple of weeks and will do a clean install of virtual cd at that time. If you have any more ideas let me know and I'll give them a try, otherwise I'll let you know after the reformat if the problem is resolved (may be a couple of weeks as I stated earlier). Again, thanks for you help thus far.

Explorer Integration with ISO Images

Good News! After a complete reformat of my computer and a reinstall of my os (still win 7 x64 pro), I am able to right click on .iso files and insert them into a virtual drive. I have no idea what made this impossible before - probably just some random incompatibility between programs. Anyway thank you for your help. I now consider this issue resolved.

Hello,

Yes, these are really good news.

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

Kind regards
